Here's the story: In 2018 we were contacted by a writer for Maxim Magazine Russia (yes, that Maxim Magazine) who wanted to do a feature on our brand. After the initial surprise wore off, we agreed, and proceeded to have a very normal series of interview emails. A few months passed before the writer sent us the article, which was of course written in Russian. Excited at the prospect of our first international press, we quickly sent the article through Google Translate, and promptly lost our minds as we read the headline, "Skin For You Straight From Milwaukee". Every time leather was mentioned in the article it translated to "skin", which we immediately found both horrific and completely hysterical. It went on to discuss some of our production practices of these "brutal things", including the way we "lubricate the finished item with beeswax", and by the end the entire translated piece became a little gross, a little sexual, and fantastically weird. We couldn't have been more pleased with it.
Since then, we've often laughed about "Skin For You Straight From Milwaukee" being our company's unofficial motto, and 2020 seemed like just the year to have a little fun outside of our usual very serious branding and aesthetic. But make no mistake, we brought our high standards to this project the same as we always do; working with Zac Jacobson of Harley-Davidson on the design and Orchard Street Press on the printing, these tees are the quality you expect from Tactile. Just a little weirder.
